About
Hi. Welcome to Red Cat Chat, blog of Carol Hassall – owner of Red Cat Communications. You’ll find our main business website at www.redcatcomms.co.uk This ‘ere blog is intended to be a window on my sad world – largely comprising of word-related and communications stuff.
For the record, I’m a former journalist (if anyone can actually be such a thing. Once a writer, always a writer…) and comms manager in the public sector (NHS & Forensic Science Service).
I’m a bit obsessed with words, grammar and cryptic crosswords. Yes – I am very sad indeed. I’m not always right, and would never claim to be, but I hope to share any pearls of wisdom from my writing/comms experience in the hope of helping any readers and prevent unnecessary work.
I’m also what you might call ‘hearing challenged’ (going rapidly deaf) – but I don’t want this blog to be totally about that. However, I am quickly finding that running a business with a disability is quite a challenge in terms of communication stuff. Most people rarely think of those with disabilities as being providers of services, only recipients – if they consider us at all!
Rather than seeing my dud ears as a detriment to my work, I’d like to see them as offering an extra dimension to my existing services. Believe me, I have learnt so much more about real communication since I began to lose my hearing and hopefully I can share some of that with you.
Onwards and upwards! xx
